My Favorite Lipsticks

Can you believe I never used to wear lipstick?! I have never been a “girly girl”. Growing up I hated pink. When I was five I scratched off my first pink manicure as soon as I got home. I have no idea why, except I just didn’t like the pink color and the flowers. LOL. I didn’t wear many dresses either, but I do remember my all time favorite outfit was a red plaid skirt and matching jacket when I went into 2nd grade. It wasn’t until my early 20’s that I decided to finally get my ears pierced and I told myself that I should try to wear more skirts and dresses because it would allow me to express myself in more ways than just wearing jeans would.

Makeup was almost always bare minimum. Some concealer stick, mascara, and OMG I can’t believe I did this- white pearl colored “Jellybean” lipstick on my lips AND eyes. It was not a good look. It wasn’t until sometime during my late 20’s I realized that my light skin looked less washed out and more alive with a bit of color on my face. Lipstick in bright shades has become not only a staple for me, but also sometimes my favorite accessory!

Have you ever put on an outfit and needed to add that extra touch that pulls everything together? Sometimes it’s a handbag, headband, or earring. But for me, it’s often just a red lip!

You guys are always asking me on my Instagram what color I have on - so I figured I’d share my collection. So here they are! A list of all my favorite lip colors in order of how frequently I use them.

This is my HOLY GRAIL lip color! Nine times out of ten, if you see me wearing a red lip- this is it. This formula goes on so smooth and creamy and dries in place which is nice. It has a great matte finish too, which I like. And the best part is the red is a nice warm orange/red that suits my skin tone well. The color is so fun and vibrant, I think that’s why I like it so much.

Shop NYX Soft Lip Cream

When I don’t want to wear red, this Kosas lipstick in Rosewater is my go-to. It’s a beautiful natural cool toned pink/ nude. It adds a little color but it’s not too pink which I like. The formula is great too. My friend Abby turned me onto this one! She has some great makeup recommendations!

I LOVE this lip color! It reminds me of a cross between a lipstick and a chapstick. I like to wear it when I want some color on my lips but I don’t want to worry about needing a mirror to reapply throughout the day. The formula is soft and matte and the color is buildable so if you are a newbie to red lipstick, I definitely recommend trying this in the color Zip. It’s a fun Poppy red that you can wear lightly for a hint of red, or build up for a brighter color. I also wear this in the color Crush when I want a nice berry pink lip. Their website is great because it shows you what each tint looks like on every skin tone, so you can get a better idea of what it might look like on you.

Trestique Prime and Shine Lip Crayon in Malibu Mauve

I’ve been using Trestique products for a while now and I have to say their lip color is great! All their products are refillable which saves on plastic and is better for the environment. I love their no fuss approach to makeup too, which is very up my alley as a busy mom.

This Malibu Mauve color is a nice dark berry that I love to wear when I am going for a moody look. It comes with a lip primer too which is a bonus. They have some other beautiful shades as well.

This is my favorite ultra RED for those night out moments! It’s a darker vampy red for when you really want to WOW. Check out this article for more beautiful Dark Reds that flatter every skin tone.

Their formula is also nice because it’s vegan and made with aloe vera and avocado oil to nourish the skin.
